In December 2020, the CJF Peru team made a week-long trip around four cities in northern Peru to spread the positive seeds of skateboarding. Throughout 8 days on the road the team hosted free skateboarding workshops for kids and best-trick contests for the local skaters in Chiclayo, Piura, Lobitos and Trujillo.
The Tour de Norte not only represented a community outreach initiative to support kids and the budding skateboarding scene in northern Peru, but also an opportunity to spread CJF’s vision of skateboarding as a tool for development and empowerment.
Emilio Rodriguez (editor) and Jesus Rengifo (photo- and videographer) sent us this edit from their days on the road.
Here’s what the man behind the lens had to say about the trip:
“It was a hectic but rewarding week! There were times when we didn't know if we were going to make it to the next city because the car was old and kept turning off. But playing with the local kids and getting to know the locals in each city made it all worth it in the end!
One of our last stops was Lobitos, where we’re planning to build a skatepark. Our time with our partner NGO there, Waves for Development, is something I won’t forget. We had workshops with the kids and worked with our skate pamphlet with them. Can’t wait to go back to build a skatepark for the youth out there.
Thanks to all the people who welcomed our charity, all those who participated in sessions and contests, and all those that supported this initiative. It was incredible to have shared this experience with so many of you. I love y’all!”
Thanks a lot Jesus!
