In 2016, two friends put their heads & hearts together to create a community skatepark for the kids in Alto Trujillo, Peru. After six months of crowdfunding and construction, the skatepark was completed. Six additional months later our first youth development programme was born: Edu-Skate.

Over the course of the next half decade we built Angola’s first skatepark, The Freedom Skatepark in Jamaica, as well as the Cerrito Skatepark and Lobitos Bowl in Northern Peru. Throughout this time, the charity firmly held onto its founding vision: to support individuals and communities worldwide by fostering and sustaining the positive values of skateboarding.

At CJF we see skateparks not as an end in themselves but as the first step in a long-term effort to support and empower local youth. Neither do we see skateboarding as the end goal, but as a curiously effective tool to engage people with a positive path for personal and community development. And to welcome them to an international family of support; a global cultural community beyond borders.

What does this vision mean? It means continuously building local capacity and providing ongoing programmes and professional development opportunities. It means taking a holistic view to address specific issues based on specific contexts. It means tracking and reporting social impact, and learning from past mistakes.

Today, CJF runs free skateboarding, educational and professional development programmes for over 500+ youth across our project locations. We work with orphanages, businesses and partner NGOs to provide opportunities for those most in need. And we employ eighteen local staff to make all of this happen - as all of our project locations are now 100% locally run.

We believe that the continuous social impact speaks for itself. But it doesn’t fund itself. And so after five years of activity; of trying our best to prove that what we do works and is important, we’ve today set out to welcome 50 new monthly supporters over the next 5 weeks of campaigning.
